A narrowcasting-platform for elderly

Project CoZijn is an elaboration of one of the concepts that I made together with residents and visitors of the residential care center Vitalis Berckelhof during the Dutch Design week of 2014. Under the project name SeniorDesigner I started creative conversations with visitors and residents with the aim of researching what concerns the elderly, how they live and how they deal with topics such as loss and farewell.

I spoke to resident Jan Scheepers about bullying behavior among residents and looked for ways to increase mutual solidarity in the center. We came up with CoZijn:a visual wall newspaper on which information from and for residents can be shared.

With Bas Kortmann I designed a freestanding piece of furniture with a screen in it, with project manager Sylvia van Aggel and a group of volunteers I developed a method to refresh the content regularly and with the hardware and software supplier we built a system to wirelessly transfer the content at three care locations from Vitalis.

The feeling that CoZijn: CoZijn was conceived and created by and for residents of Vitalis has contributed to the acceptance of the system in residential care centers at an early stage.
