A collection af stories from a troubled neighbourhood

Wood with a story is part of an exploration into how residents of the Eindhoven neighborhood of Doornakkers live and how they live. It is one of the activities that I have been doing since the foundation of Rake Lijnen in addition to my “permanent” work as an industrial designer.

As an outsider (I didn't live in the neighborhood in 2014), I noticed that it is difficult to ring strangers to ask if they want to tell something about themselves. Instead, I went to “pick up” stories asking if people had an old piece of wood lying around and if so, if they wanted to tell them about it.

I processed the most memorable or funny objects into a collage, which was exhibited during an event on the theme of "commemoration". The contact with local residents that has been established in this way has helped with follow-up projects in the neighborhood. I have been living there myself since 2018.
