The Schiltefamily business, which has specialized in wooden furniture for school applications for more than 150 years, wanted to expand its sales area and started a consumer branch in 2010 under the name Dapper: a brand with fresh, wooden children's products. The Dapper extendable chair was the first product in the collection.
Schilte approached Van Berlo for the design. One of the wishes was a complete in-house development. So as a lead designer I facilitated a number of intensive co-creation sessions with participants from different departments, to get a good idea of the technical possibilities and ambitions within the company. Based on those insights, designed in a growing chair and guided the product until final production.
The chair is still in production and formed the basis for a successful series of wooden children's products.
