A device designed as a building

Automating time-consuming processes in healthcare saves employees a lot of time and increases safety and quality in the workplace. The ambitious Delft start-up LUO Automation developed VI-Assist: a fully automatic inspection machine that checks medical containers with high precision and speed.

LUO approached Rake Lijnen to design the machine exterior. By approaching it as a “building” and by connecting the individual parts as modules, the design enables an efficient workflow and prepares the machine for future upgrades.

The resulting architectural design language is the basis for the “design DNA” of the startup.
