Project CoZijn (literally meaning: window frame) was reveiled during the Dutch Design Week of 2016. The project’s goal was to increase the solidarity among residents of elderly homes in the Eindhoven area.
The project consists of a range of screens, featuring “visual stories”: photo collage slide shows giving the residents, emplyees and visitors of Vitalis a better insight in eachother’s background and lives. This content is created by volunteers interviewing people within the Vitalis organisation. The highly architectural CoZijn-objects are designed in collaboration with Bas Kortmann and Vitalis residents.
Social design, target group participation and a sustainable increase of life quality was the scope of this project, that arose from the SeniorDesigner project dating back to 2014. During that project, Marnix Oosterwelder co-designed solutions aroud well-being with residents and visitors of Vitalis Berckelhof. The solutions were visualised and published in the SeniorDesigner book. Similar projects that were realsed ecer since, are Buzz Garden and Throne walker.
The initial idea of increasing solidarity by use of visuals stories was created in collaboration with Jan Scheepers, resident of Vitalis Berckelhof. See his comments (in Dutch) during the Studio040 interview here.
